“Roosevelt Crossing the Yellowstone”

This orignal oil painting was painted en plein air (on location) in Yellowstone National Park two or three years ago. I picked this spot to set up my easel because it was a crossing point for the Roosevelt Elk — I counted 48 elk crossing in the two hours I was at my easel. 5″ x 7″ oil on canvas $100 (plus tax and shipping). Mount Shasta Lavender Farm SOLD

It’s been great fun digging old paintings out of my archives to post on the Daily Paintworks site, which I joined last month. I’m listing pieces that are 3 to 5 years old with low opening bids, hoping to drive traffic to my blog from this awesome site.

Here’s one from a trip I took to Mt. Shasta four years ago with the “Fridas”, a group of women I paint with. We got the name for our group during one of our painting adventures, when we all dressed up as Frida Kahlo for dinner. We painted unibrows on each other with eyeliner, wore flowered tableclothes as shawls, put flowers in our hair, and drank plenty of tequila. Good times.

But I digress. The Mt. Shasta lavender fields are a sight to behold and the day I painted this one was very hot and still. The smell of the lavender was absolutely intoxicating. The painting is 6 x 8 inches and is oil on board. SOLD

“On the Seine, Paris”

I painted this little piece following a 2006 trip to Paris with another painter, my friend Micki Flatmo. We painted en plein air on the streets of Paris for nearly a month, usually with crowds of tourists surrounding us. Eucalyptus Trees

Here’s one I’m taking down to the Sewell Gallery in Eureka for the next Arts Alive show. It’s one I’ve shown before, but I reworked it a little and I’m much happier with it. It features a grove of Eucalyptus trees in Eureka, just a few blocks from my house. The painting is 24 by 24 inches, oil on canvas. It’s priced at $1,050 and can be purchased from the gallery.

“Mexico: La Penita in the Morning”

This painting features La Penita, Mexico, from the palapa of a friend’s house. I have very fond memories of painting this one. It was a gorgeous morning and I was working on the palapa with three other artists. Our host put on Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut Song” and we all started dancing, while still painting. Pure happiness. “La Penita” is 8 x 10 inches and painted on an artist’s panel. It’s framed in a 1/4-inch pine strip frame and is signed, titled and dated on the back. The painting is priced at $150.
